Which Hair Colour Will Suit Me?

Our colour technicians take into consideration your face shape, hair type and texture, skin tone, eye colour and sense of style when helping you find the perfect hair colour for you.  We even have a number of Wella Colour Masters amongst our team who have studied to an extremely high level to understand every aspect of hair colouring.

How Do I Explain The Hair Colour I Want To My Hairdresser?

If you are new to the salon or have had your hair coloured at home or elsewhere, or you’re just thinking about a colour makeover, why not book in for one of our colour consultations?  A 30-minute colour consultation will include your skin test and advice from one of our colour professionals.  There is a non-refundable charge of £20 for the consultation, however, if you go ahead with an appointment we will deduct the consultation cost off your next colour appointment.

If you know which hair colour you want, please show us a photo.  If that is not possible or you are unsure which hair colour you fancy, we can work this out together during your complimentary hair consultation.  We can even hold hair colours against your skin so you can see which ones make you look more radiant.

Why Do I Need A Patch Test Before Hair Colour?

Sensitivity and reactions to hair dye are rare but they can happen for a variety of reasons including medication changes, illness or hormonal imbalances.  Ruby Mane Hair Boutique follows a Colour Responsible Policy for the safety and peace of mind of our clients. Patch tests – also known as skin tests and Allergy Alert Tests – help us check your suitability for the colouring products we use. Around 48 hours before your hair colour appointment, we ask you to come in so we can dab a small amount of colour product to the inside of your elbow to test for a reaction.  It is also worth noting that we work with the latest Wella range of hair colours.

Should I Have My Hair Cut Before Or After My Hair Colour?

We will explain everything to you during your hair colour consultation but we usually recommend having hair colour before your hair cut.

What’s The Difference Between Balayage & Highlights?

Many clients ask us what is the difference between balayage and highlights?

With a full head of highlights, we carefully select strands of hair evenly across the head, cover them in colour and wrap them in foil so the colour can develop.  The result is a more uniform look with evenly placed highlights across your hair.

Balayage highlights are usually hand-painted vertically throughout your hair so we can place the colour where it will be accentuate your hairstyle.  With blonde balayage, we create a more sun-kissed look with highlights placed where the sun might naturally lighten your hair. Your hair will grow darker as it reaches your roots so you end up with a less obvious root regrowth when your hair grows.

I Am Pregnant. Can I Colour My Hair?

Many pregnant women wait until after their first trimester before colouring their hair.  You may also decide to use a technique that has less contact with the scalp, such as highlights or balayage.  Please read the official NHS guidelines for colouring your hair when pregnant here.

Can I Have My Hair Coloured If I Am Under 16?

We do not offer hair colour for anyone under the age of 16 here at Ruby Mane Hair Boutique in Farnham.

How Much Will My Hair Colour Appointment Cost?

The cost of your hair colour will depend on the level of stylist and which colouring technique you choose.  As a guide, view our price list here but please book in for a consultation so we can give you an exact quote.

Can I Make My Brunette Hair Blonde?

Achieving the perfect blonde colour takes skill, knowledge and confidence so it is always best left to the professionals at Ruby Mane Hair Boutique in Farnham.

We have a vast knowledge of the science of hair colour and colour placement which results in perfect results for our clients, and we’ll always maintain the health and integrity of your hair.
